Description
Even your most basic weeknight dinner deserves to feel like something to look forward to and I think a handmade dipping bowl does just that. Whether you’re using it for serving ketchup for dipping with the fish fingers and chips you’re eating with the kids, or soy sauce with the sushi you got as a special Friday night treat.
How big is it?
Each ceramic dipping bowl measures approximately 8.5cm wide and 4cm deep; the perfect size for holding a handful of olives or nuts if you need a little snack. Around the house, they’re just as handy for keeping jewellery safe by the sink, holding a pinch of salt or chilli flakes in the kitchen, or gathering loose change on a hallway table.
The handmade process
I glaze each handmade ceramic dipping bowl on the inside with my classic white glaze before dipping it from the rim down in one of three different colours on the outside. The top of this dipping bowl is coated in a rich, midnight blue, while the bottom is left unglazed to reveal the natural clay beneath, giving a lovely tactile contrast in textures.
Because they’re hand-thrown on my potter’s wheel in my Wiltshire studio, no two ceramic bowls are ever the same, but that’s what I love about handmade ceramics.
The little ceramic spoon, if you choose to add one, is handmade by me. These are unglazed, with just a drop of white glaze on the spoon part.
