Description
How big is it?
Each egg cup will hold your perfectly boiled egg securely, and the plate is big enough for at least a couple of rounds of soldiers for dipping. Exactly what you need for sharing a lazy breakfast for two.
The handmade process
I’ve left the inside of these handmade egg cups unglazed to show off the lovely, natural texture of the clay. On the outside, however, I dip them first in a pale green glaze right up to the rim, and then halfway again in a soft light blue. The double dip creates a gentle overlap where the two colours meet, and the colours blend so beautifully.
The ceramic side plate has a shiny glaze applied to the top, while the rim and base are unglazed, so you get that tactile contrast of the natural clay again. I’ve also made it with a neat rim to stop any rogue soldiers or runny yolk escaping! You have the option to choose either a white or a blue glaze from the drop-down menu.
Because they’re hand-thrown on my potter’s wheel in my Wiltshire studio, no two egg cups or ceramic side plates are ever exactly alike, but that’s what I love about handmade ceramics.
Looking for a handmade gift?
I think this set of two hand-thrown egg cups with a matching ceramic plate would make an excellent, unique wedding gift that the newlyweds are sure to remember.
