This is a handless jug which, as the name suggests, means it’s made without a handle. It’s comfy to hold with a gorgeous velvety feel.
How big is it?
This ceramic jug holds approximately 280ml, making it just the right size for serving milk alongside a pot of tea or cafetiere of coffee.
The handmade process
Each of these ceramic milk jugs is glazed inside with a shiny transparent glaze that highlights the natural speckle of the clay. I then dip the outside once in a light green glaze, right up to the rim and then again halfway in a light blue. Finally, the bottom of the jug is wiped clean to leave a rim of clay, creating a lovely contrast in textures where the clay shows through.
Because they’re hand-thrown on my potter’s wheel in my Wiltshire studio, no two ceramic jugs are exactly the same, but that’s what I love about handmade ceramics.
